Tour Description

Day 1
You will be collected from your Darwin accommodation at 8am for your 3 day Kakadu 4WD Safari.

Heading south along the Stuart highway, our first stop is Fog Dam Nature Reserve. Built in the 1950’s to provide irrigation for a rice project, the wetlands now have international significance because of their beauty, natural systems and their importance to the local Limilngan-Wulna aboriginal people. A great variety of fauna can be found here throughout the year.

Continuing our journey along the Arnhem highway, we stop at the Bark Hut and then make our way into heritage listed Kakadu National park. Kakadu is the largest national park in Australia , has some of the world’s finest rock art and a variety of habitats, including floodplains and savannah woodlands.

Once within the park, we visit Ubirr Rock where we walk through galleries of ancient aboriginal rock art, which your guide will interpret. Also learn about bushtuckers and medicines before reaching the top of the plateau, where you can relax and enjoy the view over the floodplains.

A picnic lunch will be served on the banks of the East Alligator River.

After lunch, we head to the Bowali visitors information centre.

Then we make our way to Cooinda to join the Yellow Waters cruise, where you will see an abundance of flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for saltwater crocodiles !

Back to camp for a BBQ dinner. After dinner, you may like to go on a nighttime wildlife spotting walk, enjoy a star talk or toast some marshmallows !

Onto Warradjan Cultural centre before heading to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge) for lunch, a walk through the paperbarks to reach the gorge and a refreshing swim in the plungepool .

Day 3
We spend this morning at Gunlom, where we take a hike to the top of the falls to admire the amazing view and take a dip in the pristine rockpools. There is also a large plungepool at the base of the falls and we have time to relax and have a swim.

After lunch, we make our way back to Darwin, via the old Jim Jim road (unsealed). We’ll cross the South Alligator River, stopping to look at Black Jungle Springs (wetlands) and the termite mounds.

We’ll be back in Darwin approximately 6pm and you will be dropped off at your Darwin accommodation.
