For those not wishing to camp, this 3 Day Safari explores
the beautiful perennial waterfalls of Litchfield National Park
and the cultural landscape of Kakadu National Park whilst utilising
quality lodge style accommodation in the evenings. Bonrook Resort,
nearby the township of Pine Creek, was once a Territory Cattle
station and is now a sanctuary for wild horses. The Gagudju Lodge
Cooinda is ideally situated in the heart of Kakadu and just minutes
from Yellow Water wetlands. Both properties provide air-conditioned
twin and double rooms with private facilities. The price for
this tour includes all accommodation and lunches. Breakfast and
dinners are at client's own expense and are available in the
fully licensed a-la-carte restaurant of each establishment.
Day 1
We depart your Darwin accommodation around 0700 hours and
travel to Litchfield Park to visit the beautiful Florence Falls
and Wangi Falls two of the many waterfalls cascading from the
Tabletop Ranges. Perhaps a swim in the plunge pool at the base
of the falls, or explore the surrounding monsoon rainforest.
In the afternoon we leave the national park via the small township
of Batchelor and continue on to the historic mining settlement
of Pine Creek, site of a major gold rush a century ago and still
a gold mining town today. Tonight's accommodation is at Franz
Weber's Bonrook Resort.
Day 2
After breakfast we travel eastward to the World Heritage Listed
Kakadu National Park. We travel through the South Alligator Valley
into the southern, less visited section of Kakadu known as the stone
country. A visit to the spectacular Gunlom Falls will surely be a
highlight. Gunlom was made famous in the movie "Crocodile Dundee"
as Echo Pool. Here we have the opportunity to hike to the top of the
waterfalls and explore the beautiful rock pools as well as take in
the spectacular views of the Arnhem Escarpment. This afternoon we
continue our journey to the North and to this evening's accommodation
at the Gagudju Lodge Cooinda.
Day 3
Early this morning, we embark on a guided cruise on the world
famous Yellow Water with the opportunity to see some of the myriad
birdlife and of course, the awesome saltwater crocodile. Brolgas,
Jabiru, Whistling Ducks, Radjah Shellduck & Magpie Geese
together with many species of Kingfisher and Heron abound in
these wetlands. After the cruise we head across the Jabiluka
floodplains to Ubirr to view the Aboriginal rock art spanning
23,000 years and a seasonal occupation site. The view from the
top of the rock is magnificent. From here we continue on to Darwin
arriving in the late afternoon.
NOTE: In the monsoon months of December - May some areas (Gunlom
and Ubirr) can be inaccessible due to flooding. In these instances
substitute areas will be visited. Child prices (when sharing with
adults) are available on application and subject to availability.
