Dine on a gourmet BBQ of Australian delicacies and then sit back and take in the mystery of the desert sky. Accommodation: Ayers Rock Resort Three Nights - choice of accommodation.
Day 2: Ayers Rock - Uluru Sunrise & Afternoon Kata Tjuta
Travel to the sunrise viewing area, Talinguru nyakunytjaku, to watch the first light of the day creep across the desert plains at Uluru. Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits as the morning sun slowly changes the colour of Uluru. In summer watching sunrise at Uluru in the cool morning air is the perfect start to the day. In winter months we recommend a jacket as the desert air can be cold. After sunrise return to Ayers Rock Resort for time at leisure.
This afternoon meet up with a Driver/Guide and travel to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). You will learn about the geological history of these giant domes. Your Driver/Guide will then escort you on a 2-3 hour walk in the valley between the massive red conglomerate rock. The walking path is rocky and requires a good level of fitness. Marvel at the unique flora and fauna that has survived in this harsh environment. When you reach the Valley of the Winds lookout, take some time to gaze out over the central valley of Kata Tjuta. Then take in a magnificent outback sunset at Kata Tjuta while enjoying a complimentary glass of sparkling wine.
Day 3: Ayers Rock - Morning Camel or Harley Ride & Kuniya Sunset Tour.
Choose between a leisurely camel ride or blast to The Rock on the back of a Harley Davidson. Lunch own expense at Ayers Rock Resort, prior to travelling to the Uluru-Kata Juta Cultural Centre and meet your Aboriginal guide for the fascinating Kuniya Walk. Visit Mutitjulu Waterhole where generations of Aboriginal people have drunk its life giving waters. Hear creation stories and visit caves where your guide's ancestors left paintings in time worn ochre. Be introduced to local bush foods and hear tales of desert survial. Watch a captivating sunset over Ayers Rock before returning to the Resort.
Day 4: Uluru - Sunrise, Climb and Base Tour.
Rise early this morning to travel to the Uluru sunrise viewing area. Watch the first rays of dawn set the Red Centre alight whilst enjoying a warming cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. After the sun has risen you will be transferred to the base of the Uluru Climb. For those with a good level of fitness there is the opportunity to climb Uluru and be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views. Alternatively, non-climbers can choose to take a peaceful stroll along the Mala Walk (non guided), which winds among the bloodwood trees alongside Uluru. It leads to the magnificent Kantju Gorge, a 90 metre drop that becomes an amazing sight when there is enough rain to create a waterfall. After the climb, join your AAT Kings Driver/Guide for a tour around the base of Uluru. Travel by coach to the Mutitjulu Walk where you will be escorted to the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the area as your Driver/Guide points out some native flora and explains the Aboriginal and European history of Uluru. Travel around the base of Uluru in the comfort of the coach as your Driver/Guide provides commentary about the numerous sacred areas and features to be found at Uluru.
